Mercruiser 4.3L Audio Warning

New to the forum but there is lots of good information here.

Need some help. My audio warning comes on intermittently. Oil pressure fine and right where it should be. Temp in the green at about 170 degrees. Drive lube also fine. The boat and motor are 2005 model year.

Is there something I am missing? Not only is it loud,it scares the heck out of me when it comes on.

You have a temp switch ,oil pressure switch and a oil level switch in the drive lube tank

Any of them sound the same alarm So yo can locate them and dissconect them one at a time to find out which one is giveing the alarm and then repiar the problem

That makes sense. Thanks. The Merc manual says that the drive lube alarm will be on/off where the other two are continuous. The noise I get is continuous, so I will try the oil& temp test first.

Yes, the oil pressure, coolant temp, and drive oil are the first things to check.

But with a ECM555 system, there are a lot of other things that can set an Active Fault Code(s), and alarm. The best thing to do would be to have someone with a scan tool connect up to the engine and check it out.

Is this an MPI engine or a carbed engine. A carbed engine isn't going to have different alarms like an MPI.
Did you look in your owners manual? There is usally a discription of the different alarm sounds there.
What is the SN of your engine, that could help ID your exact engine.

Carb engine.

Checked manual first off (because I am new at this, I have it on the boat at all times) and it states that the AWS will sound continuously if oil pressure too low or temp too high, and intermittently if stern drive oil level too low.

Mine goes continuously but not all the time. Boat will run fine for awhile and then next time I start the boat up it goes off. I shut it down right away and re-checked everything. Start the boat and it goes off again, but if I put it in gear it stops. Next time I start it, no sound at all. Could be a short in the sytem, I guess. I think I will have it checked by the marina as it is still under warranty.

So what did you find out? I have the same problem with an 07 5.0.
