Re: MERCRUISER 4.3LTR EFI 2000-FUEL PUMP

There is a lot of things that will cause that problem other than the fuel pumps, but there is no substitute for getting the Mercruiser manual and following the troubleshooting charts and using the proper test methods.
The worst thing that can happen to the pumps is to run dry. Check the fuel system for air leaks or plugged fittings in the tank. Even run the engine on a remote fuel tank (Such as an outboard tank) to eliminate the fuel system. Do the pressure checkes (Hi and Low)before spending a lot of money on more pumps.

Re: MERCRUISER 4.3LTR EFI 2000-FUEL PUMP

thanks for your response DON S.I agree about the manual but with it being holidays here, every ones closed .Wehave eliminated the fuel pump as a fault. We swapped pumps with the other engine and the origional old pump is working perfect on the good engine. The pump from the good engine is in the faulty engine and we still have the origional fault.injectors are next, then the computer. If nothing else,we are learning heaps about these motors.
thanks guys..............Oh if anybody has a manual please contact me.
BOB

hispeed

just wondering how your sure its the injection and not the ignition system if you read through this post and search through the fourms it could easely be eather at this point

http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=24;t=009560

after read this post for weeks i am still confused but i have seen many problems like yours be something as simple as a bad conection on the coil or some other minor part

tommays

Re: MERCRUISER 4.3LTR EFI 2000-FUEL PUMP

Some info about electric fuel pumps...

Automotive fuel pumps don't stand-up to marine use. Marine pumps are made of different materials.

A fuel pump can burn out from running a fuel tank dry. They can also burn out from sucking enough air.

They can also burn out if there is sufficient backpressure after the pump (like a kinked line or plugged filter).

With the symptoms you're describing, I'd look real close at the source, not the electrical or pump. I'd guess your problem is plumbing related between the tank and the pump.

Re: MERCRUISER 4.3LTR EFI 2000-FUEL PUMP

Thanks to don s , tommays , willybwright for your assistance. The problem has been solved.this boat is a mates boat and he had said he had blown out the lines between the pump and the tank.the long and short of it was a piece of wood obstucting the skin fitting of the tank.
Thanks again
bob

god speed to everyone there, any codes? maybe a MAP sensor? OR Mass air flow?? I dont know much about boats and EFI but I know they have one or the other,
MAF OR MAP possibly is spark "going away?" when trying to rev up?? some CAR repeate CAR systems wont energise the fuel pump without a distributor pulse
(except for a few seconds at startup) just a thought
