Mercruiser 4.3LX Alpha One Gen 2- Where to aim temperature probe for best reading

If I'm not sure my dashboard temp guage is accurate and I have an IR thermometer... where are the best places to aim my IR thermometer on the engine to get a good reading of the engine's temperature?
