OK, here is the issue... I have a 1997 Regal Destiny 200 with Mercruiser 4.3LX Gen+ 241hrs. I had the starter replaced last year along with both batteries. It was running fine until last weekend when I went to start it the only thing it would do is make a buzz\click noise. So I replaced the slave solenoid and charged the batteries and it is still doing the same thing. Can someone please let me know what else it could be... I am at a loss. My initial thought is the starter solenoid but it is really difficult to get to and I don't want to replace it again! I was going to try to jump across the solenoid terminals but honestly I can't see them so I'm not sure it is possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

check the physical connections of the battery cables both pos and neg.
Try jumping the 2 large lugs on the slave ,same as a screwdriver across the starter to see if the starter will turn. Still buzz`s, then check cable connections.May be a internally corroded battery cable or cable end.

So if I jump the 2 large bolts on the slave solenoid it is the same as jumping the + and - on the starter solenoid?! I was not aware of that! Thanks!! I will try it when I get home. If the starter still just buzz\clicks does that indicate the starter or the starter solenoid? Or something else? Thanks for the quick response!!

There is no such thing as a + and - on a starter solenoid. Jumping across the starter to crank the engine is done by jumping between the large terminal the battery cable attaches to, and the small terminal closest to the block (yellow/red wire on it)
Jumping across the 2 large terminals on the slave solenoid, just bypasses the solenoid.

I stand corrected... there is no + and - on the starter solenoid. But, jumping the slave solenoid will bypass the starter solenoid? Now i am confused!

No, jumping the 2 large terminals of the slave solenoid bypasses the SLAVE Solenoid.

Have a look at this thread, you don't seem to understand what the different parts do or how they work together.

So some new information... apparently the boat dieseled when my father used the boat and sucked in water. I removed the plugs and indeed their was water in some of the cylinders! But I still cannot get the starter to turn the motor over it still clicks\buzzes.... I can turn the motor over by hand. Any ideas?
