Can I skip the bypass gas/oil/stabilizer tank part and instead run the engine with just a fuel addictive in the gas tank? It is too difficult for me to hook up an external gas tank etc on my own. I used to fog my old boat but these newer engines require the external gas mixture instead. It is too difficult for me to reach the gas line and disconnect it and attach the external gas tank etc. Any advice would help. I have a Bayliner VR 2017 with Mercruiser 4.5 L 250

You can do anything you want ------- it's your boat.
But
You will lose the protection the oil provides to the fuel pumps, injectors, pistons, cylinders and valves.
Maybe talk to a mechanic and see about installing a valve or something that would allow you to complete this yearly task?

Post up a pic of your engine compartment with the fuel line and filter. It may not be as hard as you think. You might just need a double barb fitting, that you put one end into the disconnected engine fuel line and put the other end into the fuel line coming from the external tank. Put clamps on both fuel lines where the barbed fitting fits into them. Then you can run the engine on the mixture in the external tank.

I'm not sure how critical that step is, since I have buddies that have never fogged and their engine never had issues. But for me I like to cover all the bases and follow the manual.

So on my 4.5, I hook up the fuel cocktail before the filter cannister. This cannister is on the front left side of engine, just below the leg oil reservoir. On the bottom side it has a short length of fuel line, barbed fitting, that attaches to the main line to the tank. I disconnect the main line and hook up to the barb. Simple process.
Oh and if you do this, mix up a gallon or even 1/2 gallon will be lots. The manual says to mix 5 gallons, which is enough to go boating all day.

Hi
so for the mpi, it now states in the manual to fog for storage with a 2 stroke mix.
so I run the fuel down as far as I dare on the last trip out..take a mix of fuel and oil with me (about a gallon mixed) which is mixed at about 20-1 mix. When I’ve ran down as far as I dare, on empty, I make sure I’m near the slipway. Put the 5l gallon of mix in. Run her to the slip and make sure I can smell the 2 stroke coming through it. Job done.
I think the manual actually says a stronger mix than my 20-1 but I don’t fancy any richer than that.
