mercruiser 470 carburetor

im thinking about changing out my 2 barrel carburetor to a 4 barrel to get out of the hole better when im loaded heavy. has eneyone done this, or should i leave my motor alone.

You would have to find a manifold, just an adapter plate wouldn't gain you anything.

im thinking about buying a used intake and 4 barrel and oil filter adapter off a 490 . just seeing if its worth while.

I would tend to agree with bubba, I am not sure it will make that much difference. You might be better served by changing your prop, essentially giving you a better "low gear".

ok thanks thats what i was looking for --- just dont need to load so heavy (people, food, drinks) maybe a bigger boat.....thanks for your replys

Over on Breezeworks.net they specialize in these motors. I saw some pics of some sick 470's. The 485 was rated at 10 more hp. If you want to sink some $ into it there are some things you can do. When i have to break mine down i am going to try to mate an aluminum head to it.
