Greets everyone. Helped my sister and BIL put their big cruiser back in the water yesterday. Starboard engine was a no-fire unfortunately...plenty of fuel, thought I may have flooded it actually, but thinking it was the long winter sitting perhaps I gave it a quick shot of ether...and still no fire. Assumed no spark at that point.

Did some basic diagnostics - sure enough no spark on #1 wire past the distributor. Pulled wire off the coil and had spark. So, took off the cap and rotor and did the best I could do with what I had (some sandpaper basically) and cleaned up things as best as possible. Put it all back together, gave the wires a shot of WD40 in case there was any moisture issues, put it back together..and still no joy. Very weak spark on #1 at that point but not enough to fire. Unfortunately with the alternator on the starboard engine only, an ever weakening start battery, and no power at the slip...we eventually called it before we flattened the start battery and left it. We got it to it's slip on one engine no problem in the meantime.

So....I'm thinking probably just cap and rotor, new wires probably not a bad idea, unsure when the plugs were done last (so they're on the to-do list), but the still weak spark has me wondering....points perhaps as well? It's been a long time since I did any work on a cap/rotor/points system so any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.
