Hey guys need your help with this one.1979 mercruiser 470 with Prestolite trim pump. I know the motor needs rebuilt but I can't find no part number. There is HYC 5008 and 46 78 on the bottom but I haven't been able to Google anything or find anything on here. The tank has 8 screws on the bottom. Anybody got a clue as to where I can find the part number or model number to get replacement parts?

If you really wanted to you could just replace your motor and tank for $200:

But I agree with Bondo, I spent 2 years messing around cleaning the brushes on the prestolite pump and trying to rebuild the motor literally every few weeks. I got so fed up that I went for the newer style he suggested. I believe you can get a brand new one from SEI for $300:

They're often found on ebay too. If you choose to get the new pump, the threads on your hoses will not work (yours are 3/8-24, you need 7/16-24). You will need some adapter fittings to get them to fit in the new pump, which is quicksilver part # 22-77366. Best of luck
