2000 trophy 2352 with a MerCruiser 5.0

2 barrel carbureted engine with Denso ignition. Boat had a very small amount of power loss towards the end of season after it sat for about a month. I assumed it needed a tuneup.

Started it up this year it starts and idles excellent.

I brought it to the water and it only went about 4000 RPMs and 25 mph which is slow for that boat.

I replaced

The spark plugs, the cap, the rotor, fuel filter.

I went back to the water and now it’s only 2600- 3000 RPMs. It’ll rev out to 5000 in the driveway..

I replaced the carburetor with a brand new carburetor, replaced the main fuel line, hooked up the an external gas tank with fresh high-octane fuel, compression test it out 140 per cylinder all the way around, replaced the ignition sensor underneath the rotor and it’s still the same.

I broke down the risers and manifolds and inspected them for any type of blockage or water the flaps are good going out the transom everything is perfectly clean and clear

I’m honestly at a loss I don’t know what else to do.

Check your plug wires make sure one is not crossed. Did you buy a "reman" carb? Check your timing make sure your advancing.

go to the stickies at the top of the forum. in the DIY sticky is a whole link on low WOT. stop wasting money on parts and go thru that full list

unless your carb was physically broken, a rebuild kit is under $50. why did you buy a new carb, and did you buy the correct carb.

blockages in the water system do not affect power output unless the motor is over-heated
