I have a 1994 mercruiser 5.0 can I just buy a long block 5.7 and put all my stuff off my old 5.0 on it?

I was also leaning toward a new 2008 long block vs a rebuilt... Thoughts?

Anyone know if I will really tell the difference in power?

You can easily put a 5.7 in place of a 5 liter. A 94 will have a one piece main already. Just keep it within the same basic features (one piece main - vs - two piece, etc) and you will have no problems.

Ayuh,....

You'll also need a new Intake,+ Carb,...

But Yes,... It'll be Noticeable.....

I am not sure what kind of boat you are working with but i did the same thing last year but backwards I found a deal to good to miss on a 5.0 and my 5.7 decided it was going to ingest water. So I got a outdrive (alpha 1 gen 1) and a complete 5.0 for 600 from a friend. I put it in and let me tell you. I lost 4 inches in prop pitch just to get on plane I went from a 21 to a 17 and to wake board I need a 15 that translates to about 15 miles and hour on the top end and I miss it. As someone told me when I did this switch the 305 is a dog compared to the 350

everything from your 305 will fit a 350 tbi one piece rear main engine ,you may need to rejet your carb . i would try a good run and check the plug colour, if they are a light tan colour and the motor doesnt ping leave it alone. if the plugs are white or it pings ,rejet to 350 specs. a 2008 engine will be a vortec and will require a different intake, distributor gear, and an electric fuel pump

Just bolt all your old stuff on there, and you're good to go. I'd ditch the 305 as quickly as possible...

If you have a question, start a new thread, don't just tack onto someone elses old thread with a new question. The archives are for reading, not posting to.
