Mercruiser 5.7 has a metal tube (covered with a rubber sheath) that runs from Starboard Exhaust to Intake manifold....This part is simply referred to as an exhaust tube in the intake manifold diagram. Question...What is the actual purpose of this tube? Does it carry exhaust gas to intake to recycle? or Does it carry water? When i moved the sheath I see what looks like steam come out so I am wondering it the metal tube has a leak and what the actual purpose is before I spend $150 to replace....Thanks Bob

Edit: I read your post a little better. I am not sure what tube your are referring to.

Normally an exhaust tube is a tube that replaces the exhaust bellows. It is easier to install. It goes where the bellows would be but is not sealed on the drive side. The engine will be a little louder than with bellows.

Be careful as that tube between the exhaust manifold to the intake manifold is the hottest part of the engine as it gets over 210 degrees.
It's primary use is for better emissions and is just exhaust gases transfer. Shouldn't be any water in there. 32-807727A2 TUBE-EXHAUST,
