I have what I'm assuming is just a mess of a wire issue, that is pushing me to want to get out of boating. The boat is a 1995 Rinker Fiesta Vee 265, 5.7L Mercruiser TBI with a Bravo III, serial number OF286058. Long story short, I had a bad technician a few years ago mess with too much and I have paid the price ever since. The biggest issue is that the boat has major issues starting back up when hot. It cold starts every time with no issues, but even running it 10 minutes and shutting off won't allow it to restart. The starter cranks and cranks but that's it, gauges all work. If I let it sit 30 minutes or so, I can get it to start but it usually only fires if I let off the ignition slowly and it fires right as the key is let off. It is like something gets so hot that it needs to cool off before during again. The injectors are pulsing with fuel during the time. I replaced the ignition switch, relays, ICM (with plenty of included white grease), ignition coil, coil under the distributor all with OE parts.
I just recently had the engine rebuilt with a very reputable, certified tech who said it is wired to factory specs. Same issue persists. Here in the cooler spring months I can cruise around 30 minutes or so without issue, however in the hot summer months within 15 minutes the boat will shut off and then you have to wait an hour two before it restarts. After about 10 minutes even touching the tilt switch will even drop the RPMs on plane. That's usually when I know to get back to the dock ASAP.
I keep the battery switch turned to "both", for some reason if I have it on 1 or 2 the selected battery will read around 14.5 volts when running and the other will read 10.5. Replaced batteries this year, same scenario.
It may just be a variety of bad wiring issues, or hopefully everything is just caused from one issue I just don't even know where to start at this point. Any suggestions are welcomed!
