Well, that's what I'd call it anyway...

I need to replace mine, but I cannot seem to find this part! Am I using the wrong name? All I can find is 1 drawing in my Clymer's manual that calls it a 'Guard'.

Should I just use the automotive equivalent?

TIA!

Oh, its for a '76 Mercruiser 898 that I'm cleaning up and putting back together.

What are you referring to?
Your description isn't very informative.
Post a picture.

From the link , the part you refer to is usually riveted to the bottom of the intake manifold

Yes! That's it...here's what mine looks like. Are they not replaceable? Mine has rusted through...

Re: Mercruiser 898 Intake Valley Pan?

Just grind off the rivits and throw it away.
Then clean all the crap under it.
It does nothing except give oil a place to sit and turn to sludge.
The factory doesnt even use them anymore as the figured out they are junk.

The orginal idea was that they would keep the bottoom of the intake a little cooler to help in atomizing the fuel. DIDNT WORK!!!

It is a totally unnessary part that needs to be thrown out...:D

Nice job on cleaning the intake gasket surface. On the one side any way..:D
