Hi there. I've been lurking here awhile and would like to say that this forum seems very informative and provides a wealth of info.

I'm thinking of making my own alignment tool and was wondering if there is a disadvantage to making it out of aluminum?

thanks

Aluminum would be too soft and get damaged on the end that has to go into the splines.

Thanks for the prompt reply.
I wasn't sure what kind of force was exerted on the tool.

Not too much force, but the tolerance needs to be tight and the aluminum wouldn't hold up well enough to have faith in the alignment.
