depends, most have a Cir-clip, E-clip holding it in place from inside the boat. remove the clip and push the remains outward.

thought you wanted the transom housing one. that is simply removed by pulling the remains outward and pushing the replacement in place

The O-rings hold the anit-dribble valve in place. Use pliers to pull out the old anit-dribble valve. Use a 3/8 deep socket to tap new one in till flush. Oil the O-rings for easier installation. Check your private message for a diagram.

one more question (it's raining outside so this has to be done tomorrow) when I install the valve place the O ring behind it does the hose require a clamp to hold it in place or does it go in by preassure

does the hose require a clamp to hold it in place or does it go in by pressure
The hose connects to the front (towards the bow of the boat next to the rubber bellows) side of the bell housing using a brass hose barb fitting. Yes that needs a clamp. See item numbers 6, 7 & 8, http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show...=2686&bnbr=270&bdesc=OIL+RESERVOIR+COMPONENTS

The drip valve sets in place by being a tight fit and O-rings. Basically the way to look at it is there's an open cavity behind the drip valve area and item number 8 (brass barb fitting) screws into the front side of the open cavity. Hope that make more sense.
