Hey y’all. Hope I’m posting this in the right area of the forums. I’ve had this boat (1994 Genesis 2002 cuddy 4.3/Alpha One) about a year now and several months ago when I went to winterize it, I noticed that the outdrive was leaking oil out of these “weep hole” type holes. Does anybody know what this is a sign of? It never has done this before. I did not drain the outdrive oil until after the first few freezes of the late year. Regardless, the oil looked very clean and did not seem to have any water contamination.

Would like to hear some of y’all’s thoughts as I have never seen this before. I honestly had no clue they could leak from here.

That's a water drain hole. Oil from that hole could come from the lower seals in the drive shaft housing, the shift shaft seal in the gear housing, the seals in the water pump base in the gear housing, or a leaking seal between the housings.

The only question I would also ask is, have you done any service work on the drive recently?

Either way, you need to drain the drive of oil and do a pressure test, find out where it's coming from and replace that seal.

Interesting… I did not know you could do a pressure test on these units. How the hell do you do that? LOL

Look in the stickies on the top of mercruiser page here for this link

Stickies are pinned form threads with info on a lot of subjects ...

There are also a bunch of you tube videos on how to do it.
