I had a un-solderable crack in my lower unit so i'm replacing it. I'm going to try to replace it myself since it looks pretty easy.

I have 2 questions:
1. Are there gaskets I should replace at the same time?

2. Is there anything I should do to clean out the upper unit while I have the lower unit off?

Thanks,
ScAndal

If your talking about just the lower part of the outdrive you will need the quad seal o-ring that seals the upper and lower oil gallery (starboard side). Replace the waterpump impeller also.

You can order your parts at your local NAPA autoparts store. Just the quad o-ring is p/n 18-2944. Now if you order the impeller repair kits it comes with them.

Impeller repair kit 18-3217

Complete impeller kit 18-3320
These part numbers are for the Alpha 1 and MR outdrives.

Can you show us pics of your cracked lower?

Mine was almost split in 2 peices, and we managed to weld it up just fine. Cut the worn/chipped skeg off and put a new one on while we were there

-- Joe
