Mercruiser Alpha One Slinger?

Please see picture. Is this rubber ring supposed to be fitted to the sea water pump's water tube as shown or is this the "slinger" that should be on the drive shaft just above the sea water pump?

Litteraly just finished pump kit on my alpha one, it was on the drive shaft above the pump.
