My tilt gauge is stuck on the up position. Has been since I bought the boat. I haven't tested the gauge yet, but invade it was not faulty, is there another part responsible for a wrong reading on the tilt position?

Don't know what you meant to say with "invade". The gauge has 12V applied to it and a Brown/white wire which goes to the sender on the (Edit) starboard side of the outdrive. The sender has two black wires coming from it which one goes to ground and the other attaches to the Brown/white wire. It doesn't matter which wire goes to which, the sender is just a variable resistor.

See if you have 12V at the gauge when the key is turned to run, if so remove the Brown/white wire and watch the gauge. Ground the terminal that the wire was removed from the gauge. The gauge should go zero to full scale, if not you need a gauge. If gauge works reconnect wire and then loosen the screws which hold the sender on the drive and turn the sender. If movement can be adjusted with the trim sender adjust to zero with drive all the way down. If no movement or eradect movement is seen you need a new sender.

Edit: sender is on starboard side

If it makes you feel better most people do not use the gauge, they trim by feel.

Ayuh,.... Agreed,..... Waste of dash space,.... Seat of the Pants is My gauge,....

My guess is, the wires rotted off at the sender,...

I would bet on the rotten wiring also. My last boat didn't have a gauge and the limit was disabled because of rotten wiring. Get to know your boat and it won't be an issue.

Alpha guage wiring rotting is a common problem. Replacement harness is no longer available; you need to replace the sender and the wiring, a real PITA. It's not worth the effort. Most people simply disconnect the wires in the engine bay (two bullet connectors), tape them out of the way, and work the trim by feel. Hy
