I have a alpha one gen one outdrive with a bent prop shaft. It is about 40 thousands off at the tip of the threads. It has been that way since I got the boat and have been running it like that. It may have been run like that for a long time, I don't know. Doing some reading it sounds like replacing the shaft is not an easy task and may require some special tools. I am used to working on all sorts of things and seems like something I would be comfortable doing. Has anyone done this on their own? Do you really need the special tools or does it just make it easier? Some other posts have suggested just getting a new lower. I only paid 1000 for the boat so I am not about to spend 800 on a new lower. Just thought if it was something I could do I would. Otherwise it is going to stay like that. Thanks.

40 thou is VERY bent (book spec is 6 thou max)... I have successfully straightened quite a few propshafts, but you absolutely do need the special tools. In the case of just the propshaft on this drive, just the cover nut tool will get you by, if you're happy to build the 2 leg puller for the bearing carrier.
