hello i'm new to boating i just got my first boat and went out today. its an 1995 sylvan with a mercruiser 4.3. today when i took it out it was making a lout beeping noise. it was just a long beep not beep beep. it did go out after about 5 minutes but it was annoying. now i did notice the oil pressure guage was up to almost the max i think 80 ?. and also my boat wouldn't go in reverse.
thank you

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,....
For that vintage, I believe the alarm sounded for High water temp,...
Low oil pressure, or low oil level in the drive's oil bottle...

It could be any or all three, or their sender/ switches...

My 1st guess on the reverse is the lower shift cable needs changin'...

i checked a little closer today and i noticed that the drive oil resevoir container was completely empty and there was a small other plastic container on the right side was only half full. could this be the problem ?
thanks again

Its also important to mention if the drive oil reservoir was empty the oil went somewhere. It should not go down unless there is a problem. You need to have the drive pressure tested and get the leak fixed.

Re: mercruiser beeping

ok i did an oil change and all is well no more beeping so that was it. it was probably just low but i did a whole change so now i know. :) I did notice when i was looking at the motor there is a vent looking hose that is broken. its pretty thick rubber looks like some kind of venting hose. is this a big thing to be worried about or should i change it and is it a do it yourself kinda thing for a newbie like me.
thanks alot guys
