Mercruiser Bravo 2 Galvanic Corrosion Treatment?

I have a 1989 Invader Cruiser with a 5.7L Mercruiser with a Bravo 2 outdrive I bought this as a project boat. It hasn't been in the water for the last 6 years. I am going through the boat from stem to stern. One of the issues I have is that it appears that the mercathode at some point was disconnected and the outdrive has some galvanic corrosion on it. What can be done to treat the areas. I will be installing a new mercathode before the boat goes back in the water next year. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Capt'n Ron.

Ayuh,... How Bad is it,..?? Got a Picture,..??
The severity will determine the repair...
It could be anything between repainting to replacing the housing....

Also NO BOTTOM PAINT within 2 inches of the transom housing.

Well that could justify some of it as the bottom paint is right up to the transom unit. Good to know for the future. Thanks Capt'n Ron

There was a bulletin about Bravo corrosion issues. Mentiones the added bonding kit and says not to put anything within 2 inches of the transom housing. mercathode also recommended.

Have you pulled the prop? The rear bearing carrier is the crucial area for corrosion. All the rest of that, while it looks bad, is mostly just a paint issue. Pull the prop, check the condition of the rear bearing carrier. And the propshaft anode, if it even has one. (For some reason I think the B2s don't have one, like the B1s)
Okay, I believe you about the bottom paint. The most severe corrosion on Bravos is on Bravo 3s, though, by the way.

Ok, if I pull the prop and bearing housing and all is ok there, what kind of treatment do I do on the housing? and what kind of paint? Capt'n Ron.

If it`s still available in your area , 1 part epoxy painnt used for appliances.
Clean the drive
wash with vinegar(etches the bare aluminum)
