I have a pair of 330 hp mercruisers on Alpha Ones. I would like to 'derate' the engines by going to a two-barrel for each engine.

Does anyone see a problem with this idea? I figure to use an adaptor between the carb and manifold.

No, I haven't heard of that.....
Can't you just keep your right hand out of the secondaries, knowing that a BBC is too much for an alpha?.......;):)

You need to be careful de-tunning. The last thing you need is a lean condition. Fast way to a new long block or two.

Thanks for all of the help...

I can get this kind of abuse at work and get paid for it...

180shabah, what I'm trying to accomplish is just this; I have a pair of 330Hp big blocks on Alpha ones--which are rated at 300Hp max. If I cut back to a 2bbl, I can get the power down under 300 and let the Alphas live longer. If I had the bank balance, I'd just say 'the heck with it' and switch to supercharged diesels on Bravo diesel drives. I would have fewer issues with gasoline fumes, etc. BUT...I don't. So I have to make do with what I have. This is why I'm looking at carbs.

Your "Plan" will give you a False sense of security.......

It's the Torque of the Big Blocks that Rip Up the Alphas.......
Even a 2bbl. carbs will Break the Drives,+ the Bank......

It'll be Cheaper,+ Just as Good to do as Haut says,+ Keep your Righthand in Control.....
Your Drive,+ your Motors will like it Much Better, if you just keep your righthand Out of the Throttles.......
