I dropped a 1993 3.0 motor in my boat. I cleaned the carb twice, but it still has a dead spot on the throttle. I have two other carbs, but I noticed the butterflys on the 93 engine are bigger than the other two.

Does the bigger throttle mean more HP? Or can I go to one of my other carbs with the smaller butterflys? The accelerator pump seems to be working. It gets out of the hole nicley once I overcome that dead spot. Maybe the bigger butterflys are better for that? Is this carb more desirable?

Just thought I'd ask... Maybe someoneon here knows more about these carbs than me.

is it possible the other carbs are for a 2.5 motor.does the accelerator pump spray from the beginning of the stroke to the end.also retarded timing can give you a deadspot.[lazy response].

Re: Mercruiser Carbs question

One carb came froman 87 3.0, and the other from a 89 2.5. Maybe someone put a 2.5 carb on my old 3.0. I figured Merc would change jets rather than the venturi, but who knows. I know it was "spraying," but I'll check the spray from begining to end. Timing is dead on with this EST ignition at 1 Deg (and properly set with the jumper wires).
