Slowly resurrecting a 1979 SeaRay with a merc 470. After having the throttle/shift control come apart three times I am replacing it. Yup, slow learner. I bought a Uflex B184M with the "tilt/trim" control, but it looks to me like it only handles trim adjustment. The original control has an two buttons under your thumb for the trim, then a third button on the right side of the handle which causes the thumb buttons to raise and lower the outdrive for trailering. The Uflex has no third button. Can I simply buy a momentary push button switch from radio shack, mount it somewhere convenient and wire it the same as the original?

If not, any other suggestions?

Thanks friends.

You will want to buy a marine rated switch. Your other option is to bypass the trim limit switch, and your trim up will work same as trailer.

Thanks for the help, I think I will simply wire around the limit switch and keep the install simple. Cheers.

Re: Mercruiser Control

I got the wiring all figured out, thanks again for the help. Now, I'm having cable issues.

I assume the cables are original, though I have no way of knowing. The new Uflex B184M controller requires more of the cable between the connector and the stop. The result is that I don't have enough length on the other end between the connector and the stop, even with the barrel adjusted all the way out. Again, the issue isn't overall length, it's how much cable is free of the sheath on the back end. I haven't found the manufacturer's website altogether helpful, can someone recommend which type of cable I will need? I realize I'll need to pull a tape and measure the overall length before ordering.

Nevermind! I found an adapter kit in the bottom of the box that appeared nowhere in the instructions. Gave me the extra length on the connections that I needed.
