I am working on a boat that is needing a new lower unit, I have come across one that is a Gen 1. The boat I am working on is a 1978, pre Alpha. My question is I know the Gen 1 will not interchange with the Gen 2, but will the pre Alpha's interchange with the Gen 1's? Can I take lower unit from a 1980's model Gen 1 and use it on the pre Alpha?

thanks

No it is not, it's an MC-1.

Short answer, yes.

All MC-1, R, MR and Alpha One uppers and lowers are interchangeable (and there is no such thing as a 'Pre-Alpha'. The website author who started using that term needs to be taken out and shot at dawn!!!!).

The only condition of interchangeability is the yoke on the upper for the earlier models (MC-1) it's a different length between the inline engines and the V8s.

Any drive that is not an Alpha One, Gen II is a Gen I. (Not withstanding TR, TRS and Bravo drives)
