I have a 6.2L engine with Bravo outdrive that I have been unable to align properly. The alignment tool will enter the coupler, but after numerous adjustments, I just can not get the tool to slide in and out with ease. There is some vibration when runnning. Trimming up helps reduce it, so I am convinced it is still an alignment problem. I just replaced the coupler and gimbal and the u-joints were replaced last year.
I am going to take another crack at alignment and replace the u-joints and gimbal again. I have come across 2 tips that I think will be helpful, one is to align the gimbal by whacking the alignment tool while it is inserted into the coupler and the other is to read the grease pattern to determine the direction that I have to adjust to. I have a question though, I saw a comment in the Seloc manual about the "double wound lock washer" on the rear motor mount. It indicates that it should not be used on the new design. Since a mechanic replaced the flywheel housing a year ago I am thinking that it may be raising the rear of the engine out of alignment. Has anyone heard of this? I remember the mechanic mentioning how much he had to raise the front of the engine when he did the job.
