Mercruiser Ford bellhousing and transom plate mount width

I know on my 888 drive, the mounting holes on the transom plate are narrower than later models. Did the Chevy's of the era also use this narrower pattern? If so, what year did they go with the wider pattern?

Ayuh,...

I don't know the spacing on the Ford equiped transom plates(aka, the 888),...
But,..
On the Pre-Alpha transom plates the spacing is 15" for the 1s I've pulled apart...
And,..
Along the time frame of the "MR"s,+ the intro of the Alpha 1s, the spacing went to 9"s...

The Fords are 12 3/4".....

I did a quick bit of parts book diving and found that the following models are listed as having the same inner transom plate:

71-77 888 - 65545A12 PLATE, TRANSOM
1977 898/228 - 65545A12 PLATE, TRANSOM
1977 250hp V8- 65545A12 PLATE, TRANSOM
1974 225 - 65545A12 PLATE,TRANSOM

65545A12 is listed elsewhere as a generic V8 plate, so it looks like only one year of chevy's got them, 1977.

Were there no Chevy V8 Mercruisers ffrom '71-'76?
