Mercruiser fuel/water seperator

Hello , I have a Mariah FS18 mercruiser 3.0 Is their a certain location that the fuel/water seperator has to be mounted ???????

Between the fuel pump on the motor and the gas tank

take a look at this pic,look at the left front of my motor thats where the water seperator goes for my engine it may be similar for your yours
