mercruiser gear lube

i just got my 1st boat its a 1977 larson with a mercruiser 898 type 1 stern drive..i was told i should change all oils and gear lubes..the boat has no manuals with it. my ? i got some high viscosity lower unit gear lube..is this all i need to grease the stern drive or is there more and if so where..is there a certain weight i should use..And what type and weight oil does this motor use<br />thanks in advance

Hi-Vis is OMC, you have a Mercruiser. You should be using Mercruiser Premium or Hi Performance gear lube until you understand what you have.<br />You should also get a Mercruiser service manual so you know how, what,why's and how to do the requiered maintenace items.<br /><br />Here is a link to give you some of that info.<br /><br /> http://www.mercstuff.com/howdoi.htm
