Mercruiser harness connector

Before dropping my 1983 5.0 into my boat, I wanted to run it on the dolley. My plan is to use a set of gauges from my old boat mounted on some plywood and connected to the engine harness via a used boat harness connector. I picked one up at the local marine salvage yard which fits perfectly. However, it's numbered differently. Instead of 1-8 in a clockwise circle with 10 inside the circle, it has 1,2,8,9,6,5,3,7, and 4 inside the circle. The color code is also not exactly the same as the engine harness but that doesn't matter since it's only a test set-up. I can't find that wiring sequence in the Mercruiser manual. Is it from a newer engine or possibly a Penta? I've made up a conversion chart and am wiring it accordingly. Hy

Of course I don't use an instrument panel with it. For temps, I use a handheld IR gun, for oil pressure I use a mechanical gauge in place of the sender.

Thanks, Don. Printed them both out. They're actually clearer than the ones in the Mercruiser manual. The question I still have, just out of curiosity, is the unusual numbering sequence in the male plug I picked up, 1,2,8,9,6,5,3,7, and 4 within the circle. Hy

Nobody knows what you picked up. Forget the numbers and go by wire color and pin location. Will it even plug into your engine harness? If not, it won't work.
