Hi guys, I am replacing a head gasket on a 1996 4.3 2bbl mercruiser, The repair manual says to apply a thin coat of quick seal to stainless steel head gasket, I ordered my head gasket from Mercuiser they sent a quicksilver gasket(27-879150140) it has a black coating on it. Which I assume is in place of quickseal? I also ordered new head bolts, as they are supposedly TTY bolts one time use. My question is since its a OEM gasket it do I still need to coat it with quick seal. My gut is saying no.. Just thought I would ask before going a head with it this morning.

Thanks:)

Re: Mercruiser head gasket replacement question

Thanks for the help guys, As for the repair manual I am using i got it from the local mercruiser dealer, I believe it is for 1992-2000 Mercuisers. I don't have in front of me at the moment. I have one other question, Then new intake gaskets came in yesterday, they are slightly different then the originals I pulled out. Old gasket is black plastic type material with blue silicon sealant around passages, New gasket is bare aluminum with green silicon around passage, the end passages are slightly different as they are more square than the originals, and the silicon sealer is slightly thicker. engine model# 4-43LCoujt / ser#of824941 1996 4.3 gen+ the new gasket part number is 27-824326002 quicksilver, gasket appears to fit ok, just some of the openings are slightly larger, and some are more square than the original gasket that came out. If you need pictures I will get some on Thursday night. Also I bought some thread sealer with ptfe for intake bolts as per merc dealer rep.

Thanks

Ayuh,.... It'll work just Fine....

When I hang an intake, I run a bead of silicone along the fore, 'n aft sealin' rails, let it set-up to the touch, 'n Then install the intake...
I don't even use the end pieces that come with the intake gasket set... just silicone...
