I am working on a 1986 mercruiser that needs a new cylinder head. This is a 140hp engine non high output. I have looked at several 110hp motors from the 60's. Will the cylinder head from theses eninges fit and work on an almost 20 year newer engine?

Re: mercruiser head

Good question and i think it will but you better double check. Out of three used engines i bought all three had cracks in the valve seats. I ended up buying a brand new after market head with stainless steel valves and cast thicker in the crack prone areas for $340. It was going to cost me that much just to get one of my used ones welded up and rebuilt. The one i bought will work on Mercruiser 120 and 140 engines.

Its possible....a block is a block..but because of the hp difference i would double check in whatever way you can

You might check and compare the head casting numbers between the engines also.

Re: mercruiser head

Wouldn't even think of using heads that old if for no other reason than they are not compatible with unleaded fuel.
