Mercruiser Hesitation

I have a 3.0 Mercruiser in a 18ft 2002 caravelle Runabout. Everything runs good, cranks right up, only problem is that when I go to take of it has a hesitation to it for a split second. It does it the first 3 or 4 times and then after it gets warmed up it seems okay. It has new plugs and all the oil has been changed. Any Ideas???

Dirty carb or just normal older engine issues. That's now a 10 year old motor you have there that's not nearly the spring chicken that she was in 2002. Warm engine = better compression.

My 97 would give a little pause for a second or two when slamming her into WOT from idle.. but the new crate motor will about rip your arms off when wakeskating from a dead stop..

I was leaning toward dirty carbs too. Do you thinki I could just take the top off and spray cleaner in there??? Would I need to do this with the engine off or running???

Spraying anything down the throat of your carbs does absolutely nothing except to burn up carb cleaner. It's the little needles and seats and jets that need cleaning. Short of a full rebuild, you could do a good overnight soak and see if it helps..

Okay well Im too scared to take it off. I'll just live with the hesitation!

It's really not a big deal. It's 4 lock nuts on each corner and a lock nut on the throttle arm. Super easy.

Okay I'll take a look at it, if thats all it is what do I Soak it in... and do I submerse the whole carb?
