I have a Renken 210, with a 4.3 Mercruiser, the steering is extremly hard to turn(new to me boat). I checked the pump, replaced the oil in the pump and that hasnt helped(only low). I am not sure if this is the correct thread if not, please let me know where the best place to go is. I am in the process of getting a new manual, I have looked over the owners manual and it said to check pump oil, replace or fill, and also to grease the cables. I have had boats for a long time, I never had one that I was able to grease the cable, only able to grease most times at column. My questions are, 1) can you grease cable 2) if not is it hard to replace the cable myself 3) cost of the cable?
I have always done most of the work on my boats, so hopefully I can handle this, but if not I will buy the cable and take to a local shop. Thanks for any help.

Ayuh,.... At the transom, the cable goes through the aluminum tube,...

Pull the cable Outa the tube, as it tends to corrode inside that tube,...
That's Where it needs Greasein',...

Thanks for the reply, if I am thinking correctly if I only greased the end section, wouldnt that roughly only give me 12inches or so that gets greased? I am probably over thinking, but seems like that small section wouldn't help all that much. Even though I say that, doesn't mean I won't try when I get home.....at this point I will do almost anything to NOT have to replace the cable myself.
