OK, I’ll try to explain this as best I can. It’s on a ‘73 Starcraft Chiefton. Mounted on the stern is a hydraulic mechanism (let’s call it a do hickey if you like) over top of the hydraulic motor for the tilt. It has two wires going to it one is grounded to the tilt motor and the other goes to a small terminal on the solenoid that operates the tilt. It also has two hydraulic lines on it, one goes to the tilt reservoir the other to the base of the shift lever. What is it? Is it to lock the out drive down when I put it in reverse or something? Next question…. I have a trim gauge that does not work and in my manual, which sucks by the way, it shows a sender on the gimble ring to control it, there is no sender on mine, does the gauge work by another method that is not shown in my manual or is mine just missing? There is a trim stop switch at the top, but that is the only switch on the outside

It's a reverse lock valve and it locks the unit down for reverse it also prevents the tilt for operating while the lock is engaged

The trim gauge sender is a black cylinder looking thing with a 5 inch long slide switch mounted to it. To find it, find your clear plastic "down" hose and follow it. It should come from the pump, to the reverse lock, then to the sender accuator and then to the drive. That system was goofy and cumbersome, but really never gave trouble.

Whew, thanks Boat Wizard and Laddies, I would have never figured them out I’ll check them out tomorrow, it’s freezing out there today, only supposed to go to 70! For anyone thinking of buying a Clymer manual save your money and buy a real manual!
