Mercruiser Lower Unit Drive Shaft Play

I am replacing the water pump impeller on my mercruiser alpha one gen one outdrive. I was wanting to know how much up and down play was there on the drive shaft. The top retaining nut is tight but the shaft moves up and down more than I expect it to. Should there be any or do i have something else wrong? Thanks

Ayuh,... That sounds Normal,....
As put together, it all tightens against itself,+ really don't have that play when runnin'....

Boy I am glad to hear that...... as I recently noticed a minute amount of vertical play in my shaft and was wonder if it was a problem as well.
