Mercruiser mr/ alpha one compatability

I have a mercruiser in line 4, 165 hp, 3.7 liter engine. I think it has the mercruiser MR outdrive ( the one with the eye loop on the top of the upper gear housing) I was wondering if the alpha one can be bolted on instead as i have found a great deal on a brand new one and i have had nothing but problems with my current one. Any info would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Just what kind of problems are you having. Other than the ring on the cap, the rest of the drive is basically unchanged.
My bet would be you could put on a brand new SEI drive for about $1200 and still have exactly the same problems.

Ahh! Upgrading, Make sure the gear ratios are compatable. Enjoy
