What GM engine is the 3.0 based off of? I've heard that it is based on the 2.5, but the water pump is different; I've also heard it was based off of a Buick engine, but i can't remember a 4 cly Buick engine? I am trying to get a set of lifters from NAPA rather than pay through the nose (as well as drive across town) to the boat store.

The NAPA store people should know that.

The 3.0 is based off of an industrial GM engine.

I believe the 2.5 is 153 inch, the 3.0 is 181.Not sure if they were used in cars,I liked the 250 six back then. But I've been told they were used in postal vehicles.
Just checked 1987 1989 3.0 #72638 lifter $4.30.Worth the trip across town for the real thing, not an auto partsman guess.I'm sure many NAPA dealer can look up your parts, but when they hesitate,go for the real thing.
DHP

NAPA part # 18-1481 IS the Correct Lifter for your Motor............
Not a Car Part.......
A lifter for a 181cid, 3.0l Chevy..........
