mercruiser out drive,need help

hi all. first off i am an ASE auto tech & i know just a little about boats but not alot. i worked as a mechanic for a local boat shop about 5 years ago.

ok, i just baught my 1st boat its a 1962 pipestone(on a nother note i wold like info on this boat if enyone can help, all my resurch showes that pipestone mariner co was in businus from 1969 to 1972, yah mine is a 62.HMMMM!)

well what i started this thred for is i cant find mutch info on the boat or the outdrive and i need to do some maint on it(water pump and bellows)
my ser # tag is gone so as near as i can tell from the year the o/d is a mercruiser II witch was only used for 2 years then thay wint to the mc I,R,mr, AKA pre alpha.i have deturmend by pics that it looks like the pre alpha. it has the lift eye on top and the groovs in the shaft housing.

my Q is -is ther a differance in the MC I, and the MC II.i found a w/p kit for
" Mercruiser #1 Units - not MR or Alpha."and one for
" 65HP-V6 and Mercruiser Alpha, MR, R, I."

im afrade that in the end i may need to tear it down and do the guessing game but im hopeing that someone can help me not to do that. i have serched all over the WWW. for info and havent found mutch at all

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,... Hopefully it Ain't a Mercruiser II....
If it Is,+ you Love the hull,... I'd swap in a Complete Alpha driveline....
Otherwise,... Parts are pretty much Non-existent...

best i see from a mercruiser drive application chart. the first year for any i/o was 1963.

don't look like there were very many different eng. available either. 6. 50-50 chance it's a mercrusier II. depends on what engine ya got i think.

from looking at service manual #1. looks like a I drive could be white. maybe have shocks.
the II drive sure looks like it's bolted to the boat a whole lot different than most drives.

go to the adults only sticky at the top of the i/o forum. go to #9, service manuals, get #1. that's the one that will be applicable to you. there's some pics of the drives in this book..

the id tag in the engine comp states not to excide 140 hp. i have a 110 h

so i have ruled out the M/C II, WHOO HOO. its not from 63to73. off to the next download
