ok i asked before about outdrive shifting and i was told not just by users here but by a marine mechanic that all merc outdrives shift the same way. So heres my problem, i have one that actually shifts 12-1-2, insteasd of 12-11-10. what is up with that is the bottom end all messed up? I am so frustrated i dont know what to do! Also on the driveshaft there is a letter "C" stamped in it does that mean something?

Re: mercruiser outdrive shift problems

The shift shaft lower shoe(Alpha) or the rod (GEN II) move in the same direction . viewing the shaft from the top, 12, 11, 10 not 12, 1, 2 .12,1,2 means the shift selector is backwards and the drive needs dis-assembly to correct it.The pic shows a counter rotating drive.

yep

somebody put the shift actuator that moves the shift spool in the bullet fore and aft on the STBD side of the gear case

the actuator needs to be on the PORT side and resting against the boss in the FWD position upon reassembly

Re: mercruiser outdrive shift problems

you need to completely disaasemble the lower half of the drive to correct the problem
