86 Searay cuddy with 4cyl inboard... TRANSOM ASSY # 0B423625

serial B407574.

Boat had been sitting for a while and the PT motor stuck. I took it apart, cleaned brushes etc and it works fine now but was wondering if someone could explain how the shut off works (to keep from over raising / lowering)
and how to test it.

Don't want to run it up too high and break something.

There isn't one. When you hear the hydraulics bind at top or bottom let go of the switch.

Ayuh,... On the Up stroke it loads the motor, changing the sound,+ you're supposed to let go of the button at that point....
On the Down stroke, it simply Unloads,+ you hear the difference, letting go of the button...

That explains why I couldn't find any switches

Ayuh,... Btw,... When you hear the motor load up at the top of the stroke,...
Tap the Down button to unload the check valves before leaving it...

Is this pretty normal for a boat that's been sitting up? My power trim clicks, but will not move the outdrive up or down.

Your relays may be clicking not the motor. Test the motor by using a jumper off the battery to the blue wire(up) then the green wire(down).
Motor runs Yes-No
The solenoids can have corroded contacts externally and internally.
replacement should cure a sticky solenoid
