I just bought a 1992 Mariah mx22c. It has 5.0 Mercruiser Alpa 1 drive. The motor and drive are in great shape, but the aluminum prop is a little chewed up. I like to replace it with a SS prop. The boat did not have any manuals. Does anyone know the the proper size and pitch for this boat?

No one can tell you exactly what prop you need without trying it first. Mercury has a GUIDE on it's website that will give you a starting point. See what pitch your alum prop is now and how many RPMs it lets the engine turn. On the flame arrestor cover of your engine it will list the recommended RPM range of your engine. This is at wide open throttle with a normal load. You put the prop on it that will allow the engine to turn up in this range. Normally an SST prop of the same pitch as an Alum prop will turn a few hundred RPM less. If it turns too many RPM go up on pitch, if too low go down on pitch.

m48, do you think the prop is stock? most props will have stamped on their hub the pitch as in XXP. and i experienced just what wbb is saying, that when you go stainless, you lose rpms and top end speed if you stay with the same pitch. go down in pitch for stainless.

I do believe it is the origanal prop. I think the max RPM operating range is between 4400 nd 4600 RPm
