Re: mercruiser question

Well congratulations on the boat!! You need to spend some time reading here it will help you a lot.

The drive lube is the "oil" for the combination transmission and drive that is your Mercruiser Outdrive. Most of that is the stuff hanging on the back of your boat. There is oil inside that thing that helps lubricate, clean and cool the wearing components inside (gears, shafts, etc.). There is a square container in the front and top of your engine (inside boat) which is where you add the gear lube. You should use Mercruiser High Performance Gear Lube. The Mercruiser Operation Guide that should've come with the boat will help explain this too. Good luck and don't over fill ;)

Re: mercruiser question

You should have received a Mercruiser owners manual with your new boat, it has ALL those kinds of details in it. If you didn't get a manual, better talk with your dealer and find out why not.

Re: mercruiser question

You have an Alpha I Gen II outdrive, here is a link to the proper service manual for the drive.

As far as the engine goes, you need manual #26, you can order it online from the Mercruiser site, or order it from your local dealer.

As far as an owners manual, here is a link to a 2001 manual, it's very close except for some engine specs. Drive and engine service info and schedules and materials are basiclly the same. except the engine oil spec has now changed.

Here is the NEW oil spec for Mercruiser.
