mercruiser r/mr lower to alpha 1

Can a r/mr lower be installed on a 1989 Alpha 1 upper?

What about the pre-load pin? My alpha 1 lower doesn't have one.

Also, are the acutal lower housing different? I am being told yes and no.

Ayuh,... The castings are most certainly Different,... But not where they meet...
The Skeg,+ Cav-plates are rounder on the older units..

You can use the older lower units on the newer uppers,...
The pre-load pin will work just like it does with the older upper units...
