73 SeaRay SRV 220, Mercruiser 188hp, 888 drive with remote lube resevoir. Should the resevoir retain lube after the lower unit is removed ? Lube pipe is disconnected from lower unit but nothing comes out and the resevoir remains full. Lube leaks out of outdrive when it tips over and gouges my leg (I got smart and just finished building drive rack from an earlier thread I saw) and Im hoping that the supply line isnt clogged requiring replacement/cleanout. Could this be "pulled/pumped" from resevoir into lower end as needed or does it sound like clog ?

Yes lube should come out of the hole. It's probably plugged up with sediment in the reservoir. Take it out and clean it. Should be done yearly when the gear lube is changed so that doesn't happen. The solids will settle out of the gear lube while in the reservoir. In the drive, the gears keep it mixed up.
