Hi all,
Asked this question I've at THT didn't get much response, and I've had responses here with regard to this apologize if it's in the wrong category... So after a few years with a random high idle and numerous posts, last year someone said it may be the cables and or shifter itself... I pulled it apart couldn't find any visible signs of issues greased it up and reinstalled it same issues, this year we take the boat out and it sometimes starts sticking in forward gear. We have to slightly pull back from neutral toward reverse for it to come out of gear, however no high idle issue ever at all. So I'm pretty sure the mechanism inside the shifter has some issue... It's currently a mercruiser classic 3000 with the separate trailer button and a 5.7 efi engine with a alpha 1 gen 1 outdrive. If I understand correctly I will need to replace the control cables as well. What recommendations do you have for new shifter/cables... After market vs. OEM, pros and cons... Really any information you can give me to make an informed decision on what to replace the current setup with thanks in advance

Thanks for posting this. I have almost the same situation going on and was wondering would it be best to just spend the extra money for genuine Quicksilver parts. I have had a lot of aftermarket part failures over the years, never used an aftermarket control. I'll watch for answers to your post.
