Hi guys, have visited this forum for awhile but just joined yesterday "cheers" Anyway some confusion on my shutters on my 89' 5.7 mercruiser/alpha setup. I looked online for the replacement (Part# 14348) and ordered it, they came in without the pins and boots, which it said it was a kit with them in their  I visited my local boat repair shop hoping to get the parts, they told me that they were obsolete and part #807166A is what I supposed to use. Long story short, they dont fit correct and no way they can work like they supposed to. Is this supposed to be the replacement for #14348 or the boat repair shop is full of BS??

Re: Mercruiser Shutters?

Thanks, Ive saw the chart myself too and it seems this should be the correct part. I will go down there next weekend and try to reinstall again but it seemed like the plastic pinches on the sides (where the pin would be) and keeps the shutters from closing in the pipe, even when i try to pull them with my fingers. It just worries me because I think my engine problems were related to this and Im repowering. dont want to break my new engine because of a simple part, especially when my stern gets slapped with water offshore

Re: Mercruiser Shutters?

I just did the same flap swap last fall when I pulled my boat for the winter. I recall having a bit of trouble getting one of the plastic tabs to seat into the exhaust tube properly. Eventually I got them in but it was a chore. Now the flaps move pretty freely. If there is a problem in the spring when the boat goes back into service I will be on here moaning for advice.
