Mercruiser spark arrestor Question

I have a 1989 mercruiser 470 / 224 CID
I am pondering the idea of replacing or adding to / 'stacking' the flame arrestor as the current arrestor is only 1 1/4 inch tall I have room under the engine cowl to clear a 2 inch flame arrestor. I am feeling this would allow the engine to breath easier and that would benefit me on take off /hole shot especially with a skier behind....as the engine lags and labors currently, until RPMs are up and were planing off.
What are your thoughts and do you know if this would help me a,d what flame arrestor should I get?

Re: Mercruiser spark arrestor Question

If your FA is clean it'll let all the air your carb can pull, no problem. If your engine is running well with no problems and you're lacking hole shot it may be your prop is too high a pitch. You can do a forum jump over to the prop forum and the pros over there can help you improve your HS. Good luck.
