Ok, I'm doing it from the bottom and I have gotten a quart in and am working on the second but I can't squeeze anymore in it. Too high of pressure. There still isn't any oil coming from the oil vent. Any ideas? How does the oil flow through this, could there be a blockage?

Thanks!

Re: Mercruiser Sterndrive problem adding oil

I had this same thing happen when I was doing this, but I had to hold the hose on my pump, as the pressure was blowing the Hose off the pump. Once I kept the hose nice and sealed and the oil was no longer leaking there, I was able to get it to the vent hole.

Once I got it to come out of this, then I put that plug in and kept on pumping, which then also filled my Reservoir in the engine compartment.

Hope this helps.

Well I am doing it by hand by squeezing the jugs and then putting my thumb over the hole and moving to the next one. I am squeezing pretty dang hard and its about to pop the cap off the bottle I think.

Its never gonna work just squeezing the gear lube bottles with the pointy little cap. Thats actually only good for filling the reservoir bottle. It takes some preasure to fill the drive properly. Once the oil reaches a certain level you wont even be able to squeese it out of the bottle no matter how much your implode that bottle lol....

I used to use an old exterminator type bottle to pump my oil on my old boat. I now have the Lubematic oil pump the screws on to the drive and on to a quart bottle. SO MUCH EASIER :)

Re: Mercruiser Sterndrive problem adding oil

Well I got it. I forgot to mention I had swapped the upper unit with a used one and when I did I didn't realize the used one had an oring stuck to it that was messed up and so there were two orings stuck between the oil passages from lower to top. I took the old one out and fit the new one in right and bam. I squirted a couple quarts up in it until it came out the top. Yeah, I'll probably pick up a pump for the next one so I won't risk a hernea.
